Top 5 Easy Father’s Day Crafts for Kids to Make at Home

Father’s Day is just around the corner, and I’ve put together a list of my top 5 Father’s Day crafts! During my time teaching Pre-K, Father’s Day often slipped through the cracks since it fell outside the school year, leaving little time for kids to create something special amidst the end-of-year activities.

This curated list features crafts you can easily make at home with minimal time and effort. I cherish these simple projects because they allow us to shower my husband with love and appreciation. He does so much for our family, and celebrating him is a joy. My oldest daughter especially loves making these crafts to decorate his office.

Read on to discover these easy Father’s Day crafts—some take just minutes to create!

5 DIY Father’s Day Crafts

Shrinky Dink Father’s Day Keychain

This is so cute and doesn’t take up a lot of space. Also, how special it is to be able to carry your child’s mini handprint with you where ever you go!

Materials

  • Shrinky Dink Shrinkable Plastic
  • Paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Hole Punch
  • Parchment Paper
  • Oven
  • Modge Podge

Directions

Paint your child’s hand any color and place it on the shrinky dink plastic. Cut around it and leave a little space. Punch a hole at the top (if you want it as a keychain). Place it in the oven on parchment paper and follow directions from the instructions on cooking times and temps. Once the Shrinky Dink has straightened out in the oven, take it out and place it to cool. It helps to place another parchment paper on top with something heavy to make sure it stays flat. Once it is cooled, paint on the modge podge to help it last longer. When the modge podge is dried, it’s ready to be placed on a keychain!

DAD Art

This simple Father’s Day craft is easy to do. I love how my child doesn’t have to perfect with it but just paint and cover the cardstock or canvas! This is especially perfect for really little ones !! Give it a try today!!

Materials

  • Cardstock or Canvas
  • Painter’s Tape
  • Washable Paint

Directions

Cut and tear off pieces of painter’s tape to make each letter in the word Daddy or Dad. You will have to choose which one you prefer and how it will fit onto your cardstock or canvas. Once you have it taped off, let your child choose the colors and have them finger-paint all over the cardstock or canvas covering it as much as possible. Once it dries, carefully take the painter’s tape off and you have a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that doesn’t take a lot of time!

Daddy Tree Handprint

I found this craft on Pinterest when my daughter was 2 to give to her Daddy for Father’s Day. It was simple, yet cute and lasting! We took ours to the local library and they laminated it for us so it would last. My husband loved it and we reminisced on how quickly her hands have grown since she was a baby!

Materials

  • White constuction paper or cardstock
  • Green paint (we used light green and dark green)
  • Brown marker or paint
  • Black Marker

Directions

Paint your child’s hand using the green paint and place it in the upper middle of the white paper. You will need to do several overlapping handprints. We used the dark green and light green paint to make the “leaves” look like a real tree. Once the paint has dried, use the brown paint or brown marker (whichever you prefer, I used the marker because it was easier) and draw the trunk of the tree and some limbs in the middle of the green paint. Using the black marker, write on the side of the tree in the white space “No matter how tall I grow, I will always look up to you!”. At the bottom you can write “Happy Father’s Day!”

DAD Photo Frame Card

What better way to celebrate your Dad than with a special Father’s Day card for him! It’s even better because it has a picture of his children in the letters of DAD! A simple craft with extra love in the form of pictures!

Materials

  • Construction Paper
  • Scissors
  • Camera for pictures (phones work great!)

Directions

Draw out the word DAD on construction paper using a pencil. Make sure they are bubble letters because you will take a picture of your child to place into the middle of the D, A, D. Cut it out. Take a picture of your child smiling, doing something silly or candid moments. Print the pictures out and place them in the middle of the D, A, D.

Daddy Questionaire

One of my favorite things to read every year is how your child perceives or answers questions about their Daddy’s and Mama’s. After looking at different questionnaires on Pinterest, I created this simple one. My three-year-old daughter was able to answer the questions and do a little coloring on it. It took us less than 5 minutes to complete!

Materials

  • Print the questionnaire
  • Pen
  • Crayons or Colored Pencils

Directions

Print the questionnaire and ask your child the following questions on the paper. Have them draw a picture of themselves and their daddy in the frame box and they can color the heart at the top as well. If your child can write, have them write their name on the back as another special keepsake of how they write their name at their age.

I hope these crafts are enjoyed by the special father’s in your life!

Happy Father’s Day!
