Toddler Apple Activities: Easy, Fun & Educational

Are you looking for simple, fun toddler activities using apples? Do you want ideas that are quick to set up and don’t require much thought? You’ve come to the right place!

I worked with toddlers and preschoolers for over 7 years as a teacher and education coordinator at a Christian daycare. During that time, I had the pleasure of finding and creating lesson plans that supported children’s education while making learning fun through weekly themes.

Now that I’m a stay-at-home mama and my oldest is 3, I’ve been doing theme-based activities with her, and she loves it! These activities are budget-friendly, quick to prepare, and will be lots of fun for your toddler or preschooler.

Apple-Themed Toddler Activities

1. Read Apple Books

Reading books is an easy way to incorporate a theme and teach your toddler. Here are some apple-themed book suggestions:

These were the books I used in my classroom year after year to teach my students about apples. The books are easy to understand and quick reads. They dive into where and how apples are grown, along with different ways to eat apples. As we read the books, I would ask my daughter questions to make sure she was grasping the information being read to her. She enjoyed the books and learned a lot about apples from reading them with me!

2. Apple Taste Test

This is a fun and simple way to incorporate a snack. Offer several different apple items for your toddler to try, and have them tell you which one they like the most. Some ideas for your apple taste test include:

  • Applesauce
  • Red, yellow, and green apples
  • Apple pie
  • Apple Juice
  • Apple Cider

This year, we tasted applesauce verses a red apple and a green apple. My daughter loved the red apple the best. She said the green apple was too sour for her. She also enjoyed the applesauce!

3. Paint with Apples Toddler Activity

Cut an apple in half, then use green, red, and yellow paint. Have your child stamp the apple into the paint and onto a sheet of paper. It’s an easy and creative way for your toddler to explore art!

My daughter loved this activity and wanted to do it on another day as well. As she was stamping apples, we talked about the flesh and the seeds we saw when I cut it open. This activity allowed for some good conversation about apples — how they grow, what they look like, and what season they are found in.

4. Wash Apples Activity

Yes, it’s just that simple! I saw this idea on Instagram, and it’s such an easy activity to set up. Give your child a container, fill it with water, and let them “wash” the apples. It’s a quick and sensory-friendly activity that toddlers love.

5. A for Apple Pancakes

Incorporating letters into our apple theme is easy when you can make letters out of food! I have some letter cookie cutters, and I used them to make “A for Apple” pancakes. It makes breakfast fun while teaching your toddler about the letter “A.” You can check out my post [here] for instructions on how to make them with letter cookie cutters!

We take it a step further and talk about the sound A makes and I play the Letter A song as I’m making the pancakes to help her hear the sound being made in different A words.

Apple-Themed Weekly Lesson Plan Schedule

Here’s what a week of apple-themed activities might look like:

Monday: Read Apple Books

Tuesday: Wash Apples

Wednesday: Paint with Apples

Thursday: Apple Taste Test

Friday: “A for Apple” Pancakes

Final Thoughts

My goal with these activities is to make them easy, short, and fun! They provide a break in the day while fostering learning and growth. My daughter is 3, and I want to ensure she has plenty of time for play, learning, and growing. These activities give her a little more structure while still allowing for fun and creativity.
