Fourth of July Scavenger Hunt for Kids
Scavenger hunts are great for helping your child use their cognitive skills! I’ve created this fun, free scavenger hunt for you and your child. It can be completed inside or outside if you want some fresh air. It’s easy for toddlers and preschoolers to color in the stars and do it themselves with some parental guidance. Simply print it out and complete it together!
Red, White, and Blue Sensory Bin Ideas
This is a simple way for your child to play and celebrate the Fourth of July. There are many different options you can do for a sensory bin: colored rice, noodles, or water. When creating a sensory bin, you can use anything to scoop or pour, and help your child explore the materials in the bin. Creating budget-friendly activities for my children is my passion. Good activities do not have to be expensive or elaborate. I went to the Dollar Tree and found the following items:
- Red, White, Blue Sand
- Mini Cups
- Star Foam Table Scatter
- Measuring Spoons
- Little Baking Cups
- Sensory Bin (2 pack)
My oldest daughter loved this sensory bin! I decided to go with sand for this sensory bin because it’s summer and they had all three colors. My daughter especially loved playing in the sand like at the beach!
Parent Tip: As always, you are the parent and know your child best. Please use caution with sand or any other items that could be a choking hazard.
Patriotic Star Art for Preschoolers
This simple activity will give you a few minutes to drink your coffee or get something completed off of your “to do” list. It’s perfect with little ones to use their imagination and create something special for the Fourth of July.
Materials:
- Star shape(s)
- Red, White, and Blue Paint
- Construction paper
Directions:
Place the three colors of paint on a plate (disposable works best). Give your child a piece of paper and allow them to stamp the star into the paint and then onto the paper. Simple and fun, they will create a work of art to hang on the fridge or wherever you choose!
Festive Star Pancakes for Independence Day Breakfast
I found this idea on Pinterest: using Christmas cookie cutters to make pancakes. My daughter loved it at Christmas, so we have been doing them for other holidays as well. For the Fourth of July, I decided on a star cookie cutter I had. My daughter helped me make the batter and I cooked the pancakes for her safety.
Materials:
- Star cookie cutter
- Pancake batter
- Cooking spray
- Pan
- Tongs
Directions:
Make your own choice of pancake batter. Heat your pan and spray the cookie cutter well, make sure to get into all the points so it won’t stick. Place the star cookie cutter in the pan and pour in about a tablespoon of pancake batter. Let it sit until you see bubbles, then use tongs to grab the star cookie cutter and flip the pancake. Once that side is done, take it out and serve with strawberries and/or blueberries! Now you have a festive Fourth of July Breakfast!
These are just a few ways you can celebrate the Fourth of July with your little ones. Whatever you choose to do, it will be special because you are spending time and celebrating with your little one!
Happy Independence Day!
