God has blessed my husband and me with two daughters! We love raising these little girls and recognize the high calling we have to raise them according to the Bible.
Why Praying for Your Children is Important
Working with little kids as part of my career has given me a lot of perspective on how I want to raise our own children. I’ve worked with kids who were great listeners and some who weren’t. I’ve seen children who were respectful of their parents and those who weren’t. When I first found out I was pregnant with our oldest, I began to pray over her, asking for specific characteristics to be developed within her.
A Simple Prayer for Your Children
Here’s the prayer I began praying over my oldest daughter, which I now pray for our youngest as well:
“God, I pray over my daughter right now. I pray for her to be respectful and kind to her family and friends. I pray she is loving, obedient, and a good listener. I pray she sees others the way You do and has compassion for them. Most importantly, I pray this little one will love You wholeheartedly. I pray she receives You as her Lord and Savior at a young age. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
This is a simple prayer, but now that my oldest is three, I continue to speak this prayer over her. Whether we’re walking the dog or relaxing on the couch, I remind her that she is respectful, loving, kind, and a good listener. When I see her displaying these traits, I make sure to praise her. For example, she’s an excellent listener in parking lots, always holding our hands and staying close. We praise her for listening and tell her she’s being a good listener.
I believe I’m beginning to see the fruit of these prayers and will continue to see her grow in these characteristics.

I believe we are raising world-changers for Christ! God has given us the precious gift of our children, and we want to do everything we can for them. Of course, there are times we fall short, but we are always striving to raise our girls to follow Christ.
